Ryan Yard was born September 13th 1981 into a non musical family. Growing up, Ryan showed signs of creativity in the form of writing but soon this faded and was replaced by a desire to learn, play and touch electronic keyboards. After receiving his first keyboard, Ryan began composing instrumental music instantly and this grew and became more advanced. After a brief spell of playing in local bands, Ryan began to study classical piano with Rose Silk as well as a classical music diploma. Ryan advanced in piano playing and spent a few years playing recitals of his own music alongside the music of Rachmaninoff, Debussy and others as well as accompanying singers and instrumentalists. Ryan soon felt so drawn to composition that piano practice began to fade and Ryan started composing for instrumental forces that did not rely on piano as the centre of his musical world. In 2004 Ryan was accepted to study composition at the RWCMD music conservatoire of Wales and is now in his final year.
During his studies at college, Ryan has enjoyed continued success, with many performances and awards. In 2005 Ryan won an opportunity to hear his orchestral work Lamentation performed and recorded by the BBCNOW and in 2006 Ryan received the RWCMD Composition prize for the best set of compositions from an undergraduate.
Ryan has written a wide range of music including 2 string quartets, a violin concerto, an orchestral work, a large body of string music, solo piano music and small chamber works. Alongside this, Ryan has a keen interest in writing for video games and media and is looking to explore this area much more when he graduates in July.
