Michael Joseph McClellan is a young composer. His style is mostly romantic, though he is also partially influenced by modernist movements, and, to a lesser extent, classical and baroque music. His works tend to be epic in scale, using very large orchestras, usually with multiples of instruments that are normally played by a single player in an ensemble, such as contrabassoons and bass clarinets. The composers from which he draws the most inspiration are Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Holst, and Stravinsky.
His piece Quantum Reflection, written for smaller wind ensemble, has been performed twice. It was premiered by the Wesleyan University Wind Ensemble.
