Herlen Galvez is an active composer around Boston and in his home state of California; his works consist of orchestral, chamber, and solo pieces. He has received various recognitions in composition including a composition achievement award at Berklee College of Music in the spring of 2006 and a certificate for excellence in composition from the Esterhazy String Quartet in the fall of 2005 for “Three Dances for String Quartet.”
He has had his works performed by the Brazil National Wind Orchestra, Esterhazy String Quartet, the Kalistos Chamber Orchestra, Berklee’s College Repertory Orchestra, and Berklee’s Contemporary Wind Orchestra and the St. Patrick’s Chamber Orchestra. He also has participated in various music festivals around the United States, including the Laguna Nigel Music Festival, The Berkeley Ancient music Festival, most recently at the Cortorna Music Festival in, Cortona Italy and Alea III young composer’s series march of 2007.
While at Berklee he served as the first composer in residence, with Berklee’s College Repertory Orchestra from 2005 to 2006, where he was commissioned various orchestral and chamber works. In spring 2006 Herlen graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Diploma in Composition.
