Life of Music

Nick's parents began teaching him piano at age 5, and involved him in the church choir at the same time. From there, he knew he wanted to be a composer. Well, not really. He decided 16 years later. Between that time, Nick studied oboe for 12 years and learned to play sax, handbells, guitar along the way. He went to Seminole High School where he was involved in the Ensemble Ensemble and Marching Band, as principle oboe and drum major.

Nick's father, a dentist, led the choir at church and often wrote his own arrangements of pieces. In high school, Nick began composing - mostly small ensemble pieces and solo piano works. In college, Nick majored in Microbiology at the University of Florida and did not start taking music classes until his junior year. He switched to music composition in 2003 and studied with James Paul Sain, Paul Koonce, and Paul Richards. Nick finished his bachelor's degree in 2005, in Music Composition. Nick is currently at LSU finishing his masters in composition with Dinos Constantinides.
