Jason Thorpe Buchanan (b. 1986) is a composer of concert music, film scores, rock and jazz. Jason is currently pursuing his Masters of Music degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; studying composition with Dr. Jorge Grossman and conducting with Prof. Takayoshi Suzuki, in addition to working as a part-time instructor/graduate assistant of music theory at the university. Mr. Thorpe Buchanan holds two degrees, a B.M. in Composition as well as a B.A. in Music Technology with a minor in Film from San José State University, where he was also awarded the outstanding graduating senior award by the school of music. As an undergraduate he studied composition with Dr. Pablo Furman and worked as music supervisor, composer, sound editor and co-arranger for the feature length animated film Bye, Bye Bin Laden , in addition being commissioned by the San José State University Concert Choir. He began serious study of music and composition at age fourteen with Prof. Charles Gustavson at the College of San Mateo, CA. In 2008 Jason was awarded the International Sterling Achievement Award by Mu Phi Epsilon, International Professional Co-Ed Music Fraternity. His most recent compositional endeavors include Six Shelley Songs for soprano & pianist, Songs of Moonlight & Shadows for soprano, alto flute, cello, percussion and piano, and Five Bagatelles for horn & marimba.
